Bakhoor generally refers to processed incense which may contain Oud/agarwood in some form or the other, but frequently do not. If Oud/agarwood is used in the bakhoor, the agarwood is generally of a less grade or is the spent agarwood from which Oud oil has. Bakhoor are woodchips that have been soaked in perfumed oil which releases an exotic fragrance in your home upon being burned.

Oud or agarwood is one of the most popular scents on the market today. Oud is said to be the most expensive wood in the world; oud oil's value is estimated to be 1.5 times the value of gold, and it is sometimes referred to as 'liquid gold'. Rich and powerful, oud's sweet, woody scent is instantly recognisable.

The resin-soaked wood or Agarwood and the oil distilled from it are known as Oud! The reason why Oud is so expensive is because of its rarity. Less than 2% of wild agar trees produce it. Some experts claim that the best Oud comes from the oldest trees, which are even scarcer.

To burn bakhoor, you will need following items from Parfum.ae

1. Bakhoor
2. Mabkhara
3. Charcoal discs

Steps to burn bakhoor:

1. Place charcoal disc in the mabkhara (Incense burner)
2. Apply flame (matchstick or lighter) to the disc until you see sparks traversing the coal
3. After a while, the disc will form some gray soot like ash over the top indicating it is hot and ready
4. Now you can place a piece of bakhoor on top of the disc with tongs and experience your exotic bakhoor fragrance
5. Use a little for lighter fragrance and less smoke
6. When you are done with burning bakhoor, cover the mabkhara with a ceramic dish to extinguish the coal disc and only dispose of the coal when you are sure that it is completely cold.

The coal itself does not release smoke which is why you should use this special kind of charcoal for burning bakhoor.  The bakhoor releases rich fragrant smoke which is used to scent your house.

Please be sure to keep the mabkhara with hot coal away and out of the reach of pets and children.  Always be present to supervise.
